MW2006 BoW: Global Museum [http://www.globalmuseum.org]

Thank you for nominating Global Museum [http://www.globalmuseum.org]
for the Professional Site category.

Institution: Global Museum International - private not-for-profit entity
Designer[s]: Roger Smith
Explanation:
A previous winner in this category, Global Museum has gone from
strength to strength both in reach and readership.

It now incorporates, from its NEWS section, dedicated "public good"
sub-sites such as the 'Hurricane Watch' and "Security Alerts". Both
of these feature 24 X 7 realtime news feeds keeping the site fresh
and current at all times. A recent addition is a site that tracks
the imapct of the avian flu' pandemic (which has been of considerable
interest to G.M. readers as it has the potential to have significant
impact upon both their personal and professional lives)

The core components of this Museum compendium site - Careers
postings, resources, weekly news from around the globe - continue to
be widely utilised by museum professionals from more than 107
countries.

Global Museum now has a email subscriber base (free subscription) of
more than 7,800 individuals who receive news headline alerts.
Some of the reader endorsements can be viewed at this address
http://www4.wave.co.nz/~jollyroger/GM2/endorsements.htm

Finally it is worth noting that there is not a "Cecil B De Mille cast
of thousands" behind the production of Global Museum - it is very
much a one person publication (and a labour of love"

You can check the Museums and the Web 2006 Best of the Web site
[http://www.archimuse.com/mw2006/best/] for the results anytime
after March 24, 2006.

All sites are reviewed by the Best of the Web judges. Nominating a
site multiple times does NOT improve its chances of winning an award.

Thank you for your interest in Museums and the Web -- we hope to see
you at MW2006!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Trant and David Bearman, Archives & Museum Informatics
MW2006 Conference Co-Chairs
