MW2006 BoW: The Port Moody Station Museum Blog

Thank you for nominating The Port Moody Station Museum Blog
[http://portmoodystationmuseum.blogspot.com] for the Innovative
category.

Institution: The Port Moody Station Museum
Designer[s]: Azra Habib, Oana Capota & Matthew Musselman
Explanation:
The Port Moody Station Museum Blog is one of the earliest museum
blogs around; it began, in its previous incarnation, in August 2004
and was refurbished for a more readable look and more professional
content in April 2005.

As a small museum, with only one permanent staff member and any
number of part-time contract workers, the blog is updated by staff
and volunteers. It gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at the
work in maintaining a small non-profit museum: fundraising events,
displays changes, maintenance work on the historic building,
cataloguing artifacts, and so on. The community, through the
blogging commenting system and email, can get involved.

While large art museums are beginning to use the blog as a museum
tool, the Port Moody Station Museum Blog shows what a small community
museum can achieve on a much more limited scale.

You can check the Museums and the Web 2006 Best of the Web site
[http://www.archimuse.com/mw2006/best/] for the results anytime
after March 24, 2006.

All sites are reviewed by the Best of the Web judges. Nominating a
site multiple times does NOT improve its chances of winning an award.

Thank you for your interest in Museums and the Web -- we hope to see
you at MW2006!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Trant and David Bearman, Archives & Museum Informatics
MW2006 Conference Co-Chairs
